Dr. Howard A. Kelly Park is a protected county park in Orange County, Florida, northwest of Orlando, centered on Rock Springs and Rock Springs Run, whose waters remain a constant 68°F. The area, once inhabited by the Timucua, later passed into private hands in 1855 and was used for lumbering, with the river powering mills and cotton gins. In 1927, physician Howard Atwood Kelly, a founder of Johns Hopkins University, donated the land to Orange County on the condition that it remain a public park. He had purchased it to prevent its conversion into a limestone quarry, shaping the preserved landscape that endures today.
