The base hospital was the second building completed at the Sacramento Air Depot, built in 1938. It provided services to all depot personnel, including the delivery of the first baby born on the base in 1939. Its design conveyed comfort and reassurance through Classical detailing such as Corinthian capitals on the pilasters at the entry door, shell and egg and dart motifs in the entry door cornice, and quoins surrounding the entry door. Its overall style, with a board-formed concrete surface and geometric shape, created continuity with the other International style administrative buildings in the district.
