Community of Jonah
History
2
The community of Jonah stood on an 1820s land grant to the Nashville colony. It was settled in 1851 by a wagon train from Arkansas and was called Water Valley. In 1884, repeated ill-luck in selecting an acceptable name for the post office led to renaming the town Jonah. It was also the site of a famed grist mill from 1865 to 1912.
