Blake Garden
Nature
Blake Garden in Kensington evolved from the private estate of Anson and Anita Blake into a public garden and teaching site connected to the University of California, Berkeley. Centered on Blake House, completed in 1924, the grounds were designed by landscape architect Mabel Symmes and shaped over decades with transplanted plantings, distinct garden rooms, and extensive collections. The property includes the Formal Garden, Redwood Canyon, the Mediterranean Garden, and Australian Hollow, and supports nearly 1,500 plant species. Deeded to the university in 1957, it became an outdoor laboratory for landscape architecture and opened to the public on weekdays in 2009.
