Morton Homestead existed before 1638 and passed through successive periods of control and use: Indians; New Sweden from 1638 to 1655; Dutch dominion from 1655 to 1664; English rule from 1664 to 1681; Pennsylvania colony from 1681 to 1784; Americans from 1784 to 1870; suburban development from 1870 to 1935; building restoration from 1935 to 1937; and a historic park from 1937 to the present.
