Before travel lifts, many Deltaville boats were built in backyards and barns away from the water, so once finished they had to be hauled for launching, usually to the end of the county road beside Lewis Wright's Lover's Lane home and boat shop on Jackson's Creek near what is now the Deltaville Town Dock. Deltaville boat builders shared four sets of boat wheels called "Deltaville Dollies," each made of a pair of two-wheel, multi-ton axles. The front axle had a tow bar for the towing vehicle and a pivoting channel beam to fit a boat's narrow bow and let the axles follow turns, while the rear axle had a rear tow bar, tow chain, and a built-up wooden bunk that could be adjusted for different hull bottoms and keels. These dollies were highly maneuverable, could carry boats of different sizes and weights, and were passed among builders as needed, staying with the last user until needed by someone else.
