Sixth Crossing of the Sweetwater River was part of the Oregon-Mormon Trail and the site of the rescue of the Willie Handcart Company on 21 October 1856. It was also the burial site of John Winford and eight others from that company. John Linford was born on 28 August 1808 in England and died at this camp on 21 October 1856. Faith, courage, and sacrifice were associated with this place.
