Dansketinden is the highest mountain in eastern Greenland’s Stauning Alps, rising in a heavily glaciated area near Alpefjord between the heads of Viking Glacier, Gully Glacier, and Bersaerkerbrae. Sources differ on its elevation, placing the summit at either 2,842 or 2,831 meters, while Google Earth gives 2,788 meters, but it is widely regarded as the dominant peak of the range and one of East Greenland’s major mountains. Its remote and difficult setting delayed climbing activity: the first ascent came on 5 August 1954 by Swiss mountaineers John Haller, Wolfgang Diehl, and Fritz Schwarzenbach, and the second ascent followed with a 1964 expedition led by Guido Monzino.
