Located in the northern part of Bay St. Louis, Cedar Point developed in the late 1880s when G.W. Dunbar and Sons built a seafood cannery near the end of Dunbar Avenue. In 1909, the Peerless Oyster Co. opened at the present-day site of the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club. Other structures here included St. Joseph Chapel, Taylor School, later Bay-Waveland Garden Club, and the Bay St. Louis Little Theatre, all destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Cedar Point played an important role in the development of Bay St. Louis.
