Pops was a lifelong motorcyclist and a champion of motorcycle education and rights. In 1981 he founded the Louisiana chapter of ABATE, American Bikers Active Toward Education, and served as its state president for many years. To serve the community, he created the ABATE Christmas Toy Run, an annual parade of motorcycles carrying toys and joy to students at a local school. From 1981 until Pops passed, this park was the traditional gathering ground for the hundreds of motorcycles riding in the parade.
