Gilman and Clara Berg Aaberg purchased their farm home in 1915 on land that would eventually become part of Glacial Lakes State Park. There they raised 13 children, including a set of triplets born in 1920, a first set of twins born in 1922, and a second set of twins born in 1923, all within a 33 month span. Because triplets were so unusual at the time, Gilman and Clara received a congratulatory letter from President Woodrow Wilson. All 13 children were raised on the farm, and they recalled many stories of playing on the nearby rock overlooking the homestead in sunny, rainy, and snow-covered weather. In 1968, the State of Minnesota purchased the farm from the Aaberg family and made it part of today’s Glacial Lakes State Park. Gilman Aaberg died in 1973 at age 86, and Clara Aaberg died in 1983 at age 90.
