Des Plaines, Illinois

In June 1918, Belleau Wood was the site of fighting so critical that, although the Marines did not win the war there, they saved the Allies from defeat. It was dedicated to the Marines and Corpsmen of the 4th Brigade, 2d Division, AEF, remembered as "a little raft of sea soldiers in the ocean of the Army," under the enduring motto Semper Fidelis.
