The Newland House was occupied by a doctor and his family until they moved to a larger home at the north edge of town in 1912. The building appears to have been similar in appearance to the Presbyterian Manse immediately to the east, and sometime shortly after construction, between 1902 and 1910, an addition was built on its north side. The Presbyterian church manse was constructed in 1900, shortly after the main church building was completed in 1899. Lumber for the church was obtained at the Craden saw mill on Beaver Creek, and the material for the manse may have been similarly sourced. Like the Newland House, the manse also appears to have received an addition at its northeast corner sometime between 1900 and 1910.
