A massive laminated wood beam from the High Line Bridge was removed about a quarter century ago. Made by sandwiching layers of wood and connecting them with steel rods, it supported the weight of trains crossing the bridge spans between the trestles. The High Line Bridge, still used today, is one of the longest and highest single-track railroad bridges in the US, measuring 3,860 feet long and 162 feet above the riverbed, and it was built in 1906-1908.
