Trenton Falls, on West Canada Creek in Trenton, New York, is a 150-foot waterfall cutting through a limestone gorge noted for striking scenery and fossil-bearing rock. Known to the Haudenosaunee long before Euro-American development, it became accessible after John Sherman’s early 19th-century visits and evolved into a resort that later passed to Michael Moore and Maria Sherman Moore. The site gained wider prominence in literature and public life before hydroelectric development transformed it at the end of the 19th century. Power generation restricted access for about a century, but trails have since reopened the gorge, where natural beauty, industrial history, and rich geology remain closely intertwined.
