Ellis Acres Park is the site of the first high school for Black students in Buckingham County, founded by Rev. Stephen J. Ellis (1865-1937). The Buckingham Training School campus stood here from 1924 to 1954, and the Stephen J. Ellis Elementary School operated here from 1954 to 1964. The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.
