A community Sunday school begun by Mrs. Peyton Parker in the Parker Hotel in 1881 led to the formation of First Christian Church in 1891 after pharmacist B.P. Van Horn arranged a revival, making it the first church organized in Pecos. Van Horn served as lay leader because there was no minister, but when he left in 1895 the church disbanded until Mrs. Ed Vickers and Mrs. R.D. Gage began a Ladies Aid Society in 1898 and planned another revival that reactivated the fellowship. In 1899 lawyer R.D. Gage donated land for a small sanctuary, and during this period Dr. Jim Camp joined the congregation. In 1905 the Rev. Homer Magee became full-time pastor, and that year the church building was moved to this site. After a revival led by the Rev. J.L. Haddock, plans for the present structure were made in 1908, and contractor E.B. Kisser completed it in 1909 as the oldest brick church building in Pecos. Educational facilities were added during the pastorates of the Rev. Dr. Oliver Harrison from 1936 to 1941 and the Rev. Earl Bissex in 1952, and remodeling was completed in 1974 under the leadership of the Rev. Clark Ford.
