America's First Transcontinental Highway
Transportation
9
The Lincoln Highway was conceived and promoted by industrialists determined to create one transcontinental highway from the various fragmented paths, trails, and city streets. From 1913 to 1927, it brought notoriety and some prosperity to rural Nevada towns along its route. Farm District Road from Fernley toward Hazen was incorporated into the Lincoln Highway. It served until the Federal Highway System was developed and continued to be promoted by towns along its route through the 1930s.
