The blacksmith's shop was where many of the farm's tools were made and where farm equipment was maintained and repaired. Its forge stood in the rear northwest corner, leaving open dirt-floor space for equipment brought in for repair, though Joyce Ethridge remembered that some items awaiting repair were left outside and that a junk pile stood on the west side of the shop. The rear part of the wooden building was raised on a poured concrete foundation, possibly as a fire precaution. Attached to the east side was a carpenter's shop that for a few years served as the center of a furniture-making business begun by Ira Ethridge. Operated in partnership with local craftsman Zenna Roberts, it produced various pieces of domestic furniture. On the other side of the building stood a small two-hole privy, the only one provided for workers in the complex.
