Old Madison was the first county seat of Bledsoe County. Its buildings included a log jail on the hillock to the southeast. Members of its first court were Jno. Tollet, Jno. Narramore, Jesse McKinney, Michael Rawlings, Jos. Hoge, Jas. Standiver, Timothy Hixon, Wm. Christian, and Jno. Durgin. The county seat later moved to Pikeville, which grew up around a large spring.
