Killarney was built by James Stuart Douglas in 1920 and designed by Edward F. Neild, a prominent Shreveport architect in the firm C. E. Olschner Architect Assoc. It was one of the first homes designed by Neild. Douglas was a planter, civic leader, and member of the Louisiana State Legislature. After a period of ownership by Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Lee in 1949, the home was restored in 1978 and is currently owned by the third generation of this family.
