Harvey S. Firestone, a major supporter of his hometown of Columbiana, envisioned the town having the finest little park in the state. In 1933, he and his wife, Idabelle, donated land and money to establish the park, and although he no longer lived in the village, he remained closely involved in its overall planning. In 1934, he stood at this spot to oversee construction with Friend W. Trader, Dan J. Miller, Dick Fitzpatrick, Ray C. Miller, and Ray W. Fisher, who together formed the newly established first Park Board. The view from this vantage point has changed dramatically since then, from a grassy area with distant ballfields to a foreground featuring a green parking lot that captures and cleans rainwater, reduces heat radiating from pavement, and provides habitat and food for birds and pollinators. Firestone's legacy continues to foster wellness, peace, and recreation in the park.
