Slickrock Trail
Nature
Slickrock Trail in the Sand Flats Recreation Area near Moab, Utah, is a renowned and demanding desert route that crosses petrified sand dunes and ancient seabeds on bare sandstone. Laid out in 1969 by Richard R. Wilson for Honda Trail 90 motorcycles before mountain biking emerged as a sport, it still allows motorcycles but prohibits other four-wheeled vehicles on the trail itself. The route includes a lead-in, a 6.8-mile main loop, and a 2.3-mile practice section. Painted markings guide users across the rock and away from fragile soil, while the dry surface offers exceptional tire grip despite becoming hazardous when wet.
