The National Football League was founded in Canton, Ohio, on September 17, 1920. A public art project called “The Eleven,” created by ArtsinStark and The Pro Football Hall of Fame, includes eleven artworks within walking distance of each other in downtown Canton. One work features a pre-rusted steel pedestal celebrating the steel industry of Northeast Ohio with the ten charter members laser cut into it, and a stainless steel top, or “seed pod,” giving birth to the NFL with letters made of dichroic glass developed by NASA for satellite mirrors. The project cost $2.2 million.
