North Bend State Park
Nature
North Bend State Park in West Virginia near Harrisville occupies 2,459 acres along the North Fork of the Hughes River, and its name comes from a sharp river bend that once formed three sides of the original boundary. The park's reach extends beyond its main grounds through management of the 72-mile North Bend Rail Trail, a regional hiking and biking route. North Bend Lake, a newer addition covering 305 acres, adds another major recreation area. Accessibility has been an important feature, with accessible campground, picnic, fishing, and swimming areas, while assessments also identified problems at the lodge involving access, handrails, emergency exits, and parking-lot signage.
