George Givens was born in Orange County, Virginia, in 1740 and died in 1825. His homesite and grave are 1 mile west. He gave 40 years of service to his country, serving as a lieutenant at Fort Pitt during Dunmore's War in 1774, as captain of the Botetourt County militia in 1776, in George Rogers Clark's Northwest Campaign in 1778, coming to Kentucky in 1781, receiving a military land grant in 1781, and serving in the War of 1812.
