Wildcat Mountain, in northern Utah near the historic Wendover range, rises a little over 5,200 feet and is the area’s only major promontory. Its chief significance lies at its southeastern base, where a Cold War bombing target field was built near the former Wendover Air Force Base. A mock airfield remains visible, including a runway, taxiway, hardstands, and derelict aircraft used as targets, while munition impacts mark the surrounding ground and the mountain’s base. The site preserves a rare Cold War military landscape shaped by the isolation of the Wendover area. A 1978 study also recorded feral horses and prairie falcons there.
