In October 1880, Dr. Ezra M. Hunt of Metuchen listed all the graves in the Piscatawavtown Burial Ground and identified five graves in the southwest corner as the Colored Burial Ground. After Dr. Hunt's list, two additional burials took place in this section. It is not known whether any of the people buried here were slaves or whether there are additional graves in this corner. This is the only known African American burial site in the Edison area. The individuals buried here are John Demond, age 30, died June 13, 1843; Mary Dunn, age 19, died December 18, 1831; Gifford Dunn, age 22, died June 29, 1845; Rosanna Green, age 87, died February 6, 1898; Yerkus Martin, age 75, died August 20, 1839; Margaret Martin, age 55, died April 26, 1844; and Peter Ravn, age 56, died October 30, 18??.
