The first church in this area stood 200 yards from here and was formed in 1773 by Philip Mulkey and other settlers from the Carolinas. The congregation grew until this larger house was built in 1804. The building is in the form of the Cross, with 12 corners for the Apostles and 3 doors for the Trinity. Daniel Boone's sister, Hannah, and Revolutionary War soldiers are buried in the graveyard.
