The Portiuncula Chapel is a replica of the chapel in Italy where St. Francis of Assisi received the call to serve God's poor in 1208. The family of Francis S. Peabody built this chapel in his memory in 1926 on the south side of the lake where he died. The chapel was moved to this site and dedicated in 1973.
