Fog Point Light stood at the northwestern tip of Smith Island in Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay, where it marked the entrance to Kedges Strait, an important route north of the island. Built in 1827 by prominent lighthouse builder John Donahoo, it began with 10 Argand lamps and reflectors and was later upgraded in 1855 with a fifth-order Fresnel lens as lighthouse technology advanced. Its isolated, swampy site proved a persistent problem, and by 1872 the Lighthouse Board considered it of little value. In 1875 it was replaced by Solomons Lump Light in the strait, and the station was abandoned. No trace survives today.
