Founded by Palatine Germans on June 14, 1715 as the Ramapo Lutheran congregation, this church grew from settlers who had left the Lower Rhine in Germany for economic reasons and, by 1713, about fifty had finally settled on the Ramapo Tract in the mid-Hudson Valley. The congregation was incorporated in Rockland County on March 24, 1850, and the present church was built in 1855.
