Mercer County Park, officially renamed for Richard J. Coffee in 2009, is a more than 2,500-acre regional park centered in West Windsor Township with sections in Hamilton and Lawrence. Created from more than 50 assembled properties in the late 1960s and early 1970s, it broke ground in June 1971. Mercer Lake was excavated with gravel sold for Interstate 95 and Interstate 295 construction, and it now supports the U.S. Olympic Rowing Team’s training center, the Finn Caspersen Rowing Center, and a crew course. The park also features extensive athletic and recreational facilities, hosts sporting events and concerts, and includes a 9/11 memorial and Veterans Memorial Park.
