UH-1 Helicopter
Military
The UH-1 "Huey" helicopter was commonly known as the workhorse of the Vietnam War. It carried out life-saving medical evacuation, troop and cargo movement, and, when equipped as a gunship, provided very close and intense fire support. Tail number 587 served in Vietnam in 1966 and 1967 with the 173rd Assault Helicopter Company. Close examination of the aircraft shows that major repairs were made and several patched bullet holes were found. It now carries the markings of the 176th Assault Helicopter Company of Chu Lai, South Vietnam, in memory of the men of that company who lost their lives in Vietnam.
