Double Peak, just south of San Marcos in northern San Diego County, rises 1,646 feet and stands prominently above its north foot, making it a notable local high point. It is a popular hiking and biking destination with moderately strenuous routes. Visitors can approach from the north through Discovery Lake Park on a 2.5-mile non-motorized route, or from the south by Double Peak Drive, which allows vehicles much closer to the summit. A rougher eastern path offers a steeper climb over rock, dirt, and loose shale. On clear days, the summit provides sweeping views reaching Mexico, downtown San Diego, Catalina Island, and the San Bernardino Mountains.
