Salton Sea State Recreation Area is a California state park on the northeastern shore of the Salton Sea in the Colorado Desert section of the Sonoran Desert. Managed by the California Department of Parks and Recreation, it serves as a center for outdoor recreation, including hunting, fishing, swimming, and camping, with Corvina Beach Campground near the middle of the park and a visitor center along California State Route 111. Its setting is also important for wildlife, since the Salton Sea lies on a major flyway for migrating birds in the Lower Colorado River Valley. Proposed for closure in January 2008, the park ultimately remained open.
