The historic Trail of Tears original route turns here across the creek and continues to the Ohio River, where the Cherokee crossed at Berry's Ferry and landed at Golconda before traveling the remaining 490 miles west to Indian Territory; the Ohio River crossing was made by boat after the river thawed.
