History
In the southern part of Kentucky, several detachments spent a night in a forest beside the roadside during a severe rainstorm with heavy wind, using canvas as shelter and the cold wet ground as their resting place after the day’s fatigue. The scene included two thousand Indians with horses and mules in proportion, and the forward part of the train was just pitching tents for the night. Although some thirty or forty wagons were already stationed, the road was literally filled with the procession for about three miles.
