A. W. Marion State Park in Ohio is a 310-acre recreation area surrounding 145-acre Hargus Lake, about four miles northeast of Circleville. Its landscape of flat ground and rolling hills was shaped by glaciers more than 10,000 years ago, leaving fertile soils that attracted the Adena about 2,000 years ago. The modern park emerged in 1948 when Hargus Creek was dammed to form the lake, became a state park in 1950, and was renamed in 1962 for A. W. Marion, the first director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Today it is valued for hiking, fishing, boating, and wildlife habitat.
