A red oak and time capsule were placed in honor of the two hundredth year of the settlement of the Meadville community and dedicated on July 4, 1988. Other commemorative trees include a white oak planted in 1876 for the centennial of the United States, a white oak for the centennial of Meadville in 1888 that replaced the original tree, and a pin oak planted in 1938 for Meadville's sesquicentennial.
