Cataract Falls Covered Bridge is a historic wooden bridge spanning Mill Creek in Lieber State Recreation Area near Cataract Falls, Indiana. Built in 1876 by the Smith Bridge Company of Toledo, Ohio, it is Owen County’s only surviving covered bridge. Its scenic setting by the falls made it one of the best-known and most photographed covered bridges in the United States for many years. The bridge carried road traffic until a bypass opened in 1988, after which it was reserved for pedestrians. In 2005, its significance received national recognition through listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
