Lompoc’s local history museum brings together the valley’s Indigenous heritage, natural history, and community history in a building erected in 1910 as the town’s Carnegie library. Its permanent exhibits trace the area’s human and natural past, including Native American history centered on the Chumash, with dioramas and surviving steatite tools, bowls, and baskets showing life before the modern town. Other collections include a seven-million-year-old dolphin fossil and fish fossils found in local diatomaceous earth, material on the Honda Point disaster, and the region’s flower industry. Educational tours also connect visitors to geological, archaeological, and historical sites associated with the Chumash.
