Mount Queets is a remote 6,476-foot summit in Olympic National Park whose heavy snowfall sustains the Queets Glacier on its north slope despite the mountain’s moderate elevation. Its runoff feeds both the Elwha and Queets rivers, linking it to two major Olympic Peninsula drainages. Climbers reach the summit by several scrambling routes of increasing difficulty. The mountain’s name emerged through layered regional history: an earlier map showed the area as Mount Mesachie, the 1889–90 Seattle Press Expedition briefly called the summit Mount Hearst, and Mount Queets ultimately became official, derived from the Queets tribe through the river and glacier. The first recorded ascent occurred in 1890 during the second O’Neil Expedition.
