A wooden lighthouse at Point Judith was established in 1810 and was destroyed by a storm on September 17, 1815. The present tower was built in 1857. It stands 51 feet above ground and 65 feet above water, with an occulting white light in a 15-second group and 17,300 candle power. It is a tribute to the fishermen of Galilee from Leon M. "Brownie" Champlin and family, and it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 30, 1988.
