Ninety Six, South Carolina
· A Revolutionary War Landmark
Military
Ninety Six National Historic Site preserves the lands of the old town of Ninety Six, an important seat of power in the South Carolina backcountry during colonial times. The park contains some of the best preserved American Revolution earthworks, including the Star Fort and a military mine. It is also a place where the Cherokee Indians first hunted these woods, where early traders, colonists, and African slaces settled, and where struggles for independence from Britain unfolded during the Revolutionary War.
