Schaffenaker Mountain is a forested ridge in West Virginia’s Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians near Capon Bridge. Running southwest to northeast, it lies between Edwards Run and Parks Valley on one side and Dillons Run on the other. The mountain was named for the Schaffenaker family, early settlers in the surrounding area. The Northwestern Turnpike, now U.S. Route 50, climbs the ridge just west of town and offers wide views over Capon Bridge and the Cacapon River. For much of its past the mountain stayed largely undeveloped, but in more recent years its scenery and proximity to town have drawn real estate development, including projects linked to the North American Land Corporation.
