Kathy Mattea was born on 6/21/59 in Cross Lanes, WV, and graduated from Nitro High School in 1976. She recorded over 18 albums with 33 singles on Billboard Hot Country Singles, including 4 number 1 hits and 12 top 10 singles. Her number 1 hits include "Goin’ Gone,” “Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses,” “Come from the Heart,” and "Burnin’ Old Memories.” She was inducted into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame in 2011. Her honors include Academy of Country Music awards for Single and Song of the Year for “Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses” and Top Female Vocalist in 1989; Country Music Association awards for 1988 Single of the Year for “Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses,” 1989 Female Vocalist of the Year, 1990 Female Vocalist of the Year, and 1997 Music Video of the Year for “455 Rocket”; and Grammy Awards for 1991 Best Female Country Vocal Performance for “Where’ve You Been” and 1994 Best Southern Country and Bluegrass Gospel Album for Good News, along with various other award nominations.
