A community mourns those who perished in the terrorist attacks carried out on U.S. soil on September 11, 2001, remembers the sacrifice of their families and friends from all walks of life and many nations, and honors the heroes who responded. A section of steel from the remains of the World Trade Center in New York City and granite remnants from its construction, which began on August 5, 1966, are preserved for future generations.
