Traveling east from Rocheport toward McBaine along Katy Trail State Park, the route passes the Rocheport depot and continues between the Manitou Bluffs on the left and the Missouri River on the right. Benches line this section, and wildlife and plant life include swallows catching insects around the Interstate 70 bridge in summer, bald eagles in winter, and plants such as trumpet creeper, touch-me-not, poison ivy, bittersweet, ironweed, poke, and blackberries. Summer also brings indigo buntings and hummingbirds visiting trumpet creeper flowers along the bluffs. Around milepost 174.4, Torbett Spring emerges from Lewis and Clark Cave on the bluff side of the trail, and partway up the bluff near the cave are remains of Native American pictographs. At milepost 171.7, the route passes Huntsdale and enters a Missouri River bottomland, and just before McBaine, the 8.8-mile MKT Nature & Fitness Trail branches left toward Columbia. Nearby features and history include the Lewis and Clark Expedition camping a short distance upriver from milepost 172.9 on June 6, 1804, a former railroad explosives storage bunker at milepost 177.5, and a monument at milepost 177.9 honoring Edward D. “Ted” Jones for his contributions to Katy Trail State Park.
