Built in 1867, this one room rural school served as the center of community life in Russell Flats for over 130 years. Constructed by Scotch-Irish settlers who arrived in the early 1850s, it also functioned as the local Presbyterian church and the Westfield Town Hall. The community took its name from the Russells, the first settlement family, who found the area's fertile soil and nearby springs well suited to farming. Several descendants of the Scotch-Irish settlers still own or occupy their original family farms.
